Uluwatu Temple and Cliffs

  • Entrance fee: 20,000 IDR (~1.50 USD)
Fenceless Cliffs
The cliffs were of no fence, no borders. Would you dare?

This sight gave me the first experience when it comes to cliffs. I have been to the brim of a crater in Indonesia but behind a fence. But these Uluwatu cliffs are raw. We went to the side with no borders or fences and the feeling was simply fantastic! And then add the effect of crashing waves against its history-filled walls while the bright sun was sinking in the horizon, it was just so picture-perfect. To me, the water effect is always appealing. For example, waterfalls in the middle of the forest or just having a simple fountain in a hotel. The impact is awesome because the water has no life but it moves, thus, gives life to the surroundings. But that’s just me.

Crashing Waves
The waves crashed against the cliffs. Whatever happens, don’t look down!
Me and Dad Cliff
Me and Dad just enjoying the view and heights. Falling off a cliff – Dad’s signature pose.

During sunset at 6 PM, a Kecak dance is performed in an enclosed area and it is required to buy a ticket to witness it. Since we were 5 minutes late, we just had to scout the area and look for photo opportunities. Perhaps that was even a better idea because we went beyond the temple and saw the fenceless cliffs, all to ourselves. In all of these, we just could not help but gaze at the setting sun, not to mention the not-so-friendly, drinking monkeys running around the area while checking out the people.

Uluwatu Sunset
The sun sets behind the Uluwatu Temple while the men do the Kecak dance.
Monkey
Just one of the many naughty creatures that was checking out people (or victims?).

Sunset Dinner at Jimbaran Beach

Jimbaran
The best photo I have during our sunset dinner at Jimbaran Bay.

To end the day, it was highly recommended in the reviews to try the sunset dinner along Jimbaran Beach. So we asked our driver Johnny to bring us there. Apparently, we found it too costly for us but the ambiance was super. We ordered some drinks and finger foods so we can at least enjoy the place. The damage per person was around 12 USD already and the food was not even close to a full meal.
