Zojoji Temple

WTC
We happen to pass by the World Trade Center on our way to Tokyo Tower.
Park
The city has a lot of parks similar to this. And I feel like every tree is a giant Bonsai. =D

It was not in the initial plan to visit the Zojoji Temple. However, when we saw the Tokyo Tower from a distance and the temple in front of it, we wondered if there was a way through the temple to the tower. While we were at it, we spent some time checking the vicinity of the temple.

Zojoji
We met the Zojoji Temple first before Tokyo Tower. The tower is behind it.
Himalayan Cedar
A sign saying the significance of the tree in front of Zojoji Temple.
Bell
This bell sits beside the Zojoji Temple.
Bang
Who wants to try to bang the bell?

When we were leaving the compound of the temple, there were statues in baby form lined up along the side of the temple. From this Wikipedia article, it is very common to offer statues (called Jizo) for a fee. Our assumption that time was correct, that these structures are for the dead babies.

Mizuko kuyo
Mizuko kuyo or “fetus memorial service”, is a Japanese ceremony for those who have had a miscarriage, stillbirth, or abortion. This practice has become particularly visible since the 1970s with the creation of shrines devoted solely to this ritual. Source: Wikipedia

It is common for temples to offer Jizo statues for a fee, which are then dressed in red bibs and caps, and displayed in the temple yard. Source: Wikipedia

Tokyo Tower

Inscriptions
The stone fence of Zojoji temple on the way to Tokyo Tower.

It stands 333 meters high in the center of Tokyo, Tokyo Tower. It is the world’s tallest, self-supported steel tower and 13 meters taller than its model, the Eiffel Tower. Interesting! We decided to just watch the exterior and take selfies from the outside as the fees were 900 JPY for the main observation deck only and 1600 JPY for both observation decks.

Standing at 333 meters high, Tokyo Tower modeled its structure from Eiffel Tower and is higher by 13 meters. It is the world’s tallest, self-supported steel.

Ippudo Ramen

  • Lunch: 1250 JPY (~12 USD) which includes other sides
Ippudo
One of the most recommended places to eat ramen, Ippudo Ramen place.

Since this restaurant is highly acclaimed to be delicious, we had it in our compulsory list to visit, regardless of the price. The dish I ordered, Akamura Modern, was definitely a good choice for me.

Akamaru Modern
Akamaru Modern is the ramen I chose at 1080 JPY, which was worth the price. It was one of the restaurant’s recommendations.
Noodle Wall
This was Ippudo’s wall decor in this branch where we ate.
